I’ll Be Glad When The Boston Marathon is About Running Again

I'm worried about one thing when it comes to this year's running of the Boston Marathon. It's not safety. I know that Boston will have that place on lock down. It's not the bystandards. Anyone stupid enough to attempt anything this year deserves what's coming to them. And it's definitely not the weather. It's glorification. Sensationalism. Headlines and bylines that drive clicks that drive Read the entire post [...]

Check out the Chick-fil-A Half Marathon

While we haven't had the opportunity to run our first half yet, we're always super excited and willing to tell you guys about them when we see a good one. This weekend is the inaugural Chick-fil-A Half Marathon in Athens, Georgia. Saturday, April 5th, runners, joggers, and walkers alike will grace the streets of the Classic City to show their support for Athens Habitat for Humanity. Not a runner Read the entire post [...]

Why the Boston Marathon Bombing was not about running

Charity runs. Remembrance runs. T-shirts. Giving. Praying. Awareness. The running community has done a lot since the Boston Marathon Bombings in April. But I'm not 100% sure that the bombings should be about running. Or the runners. As we know, no Boston Marathon runners were killed in the bombings. I'm not sure if any were injured critically or experienced life-threatening or -changing Read the entire post [...]

3 reasons to be excited for 2013’s Peachtree Road Race registration

The Peachtree Road Race is by far my favorite run of the year. But not because the course is challenging, or it's warm, or the t-shirt. (All of which are still things I love, by the way) It's my favorite run because of everything else. The things they don't talk during news coverage. Because it brings the city together. It's Americana in true form. And, much more importantly, it's something I've Read the entire post [...]

It’s the most wonderful holiday 10K in Georgia

I LOVE themed races. (Except when they involve zombies chasing you.) That's why, when the holidays roll around -- or high-speed-rails into my life in this year's case -- I get excited. Themed races...much less holiday themed races...make me go all Buddy The Elf. The costumes, the special yummy treats at the end, the pictures, and of course, the atmosphere! They're all so much better than your run-of-the-mill Read the entire post [...]

Looking for an Action-packed 5k this Labor Day?

If you're anything like me, 5Ks can be boring. A group of people line up at a start line, run/walk 3 miles, and then get together to drink water and support a cause afterward. Snooze fest! So when I hear of an exciting 5K race in Georgia, I'm all over it. It doesn't get much more exciting than having the word ACTION in the name of the 5k. "Why would a boring 5K have the word ACTION in the name Read the entire post [...]

I got the Peachtree Road Race rejection blues

Hey, Peachtree Road Race corporate folks, want to know how to suck the excitement RIGHT out of the 2012 race for me? Yep. You got it. Deny my racing partner, aka boyfriend, of a number. He entered at the same time I did - submitted a legit time for possible seeding, requested a mail-out number - did everything exactly the way I did. And got denied. Remember that post I used to gush on about Read the entire post [...]

Featured Georgia 5k: Breathe Deep Blue Ridge; April 7

The Mercier Family Orchards. For any respectable North Georgian, those four words arouse a certain memory, smell, or sense of excitement when heard. I know it does the trick for me. Whether it's for warm apple bread dripped with icing, hot or cold apple cider, some fresh honey or produce, or freshly baked fried apple pies (for my boyfriend), we're lifelong fans of the Mercier Family Orchards. I Read the entire post [...]

Road races in Georgia for April 2012

This weather in Georgia has been PRETTY fabulous, no? Spring and fall are my favorite seasons because they're the best ones to get outside and run in. Georgia provides a wonderful breeze, plentiful sunshine, and tolerable conditions. Not considering those of you poor allergy sufferers, though. Bless your hearts. That being said, April is a great month for road races around the great state of Georgia. Read the entire post [...]

Register for the 2012 Peachtree Road Race tomorrow morning

As Heidi Klum famously said, "You're either in or you're out." Such is the Peachtree Road Race registration lottery, which begins at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. Getting your name into the hat during the open registration period of March 15-22 is your best (only) shot at that treasured t-shirt come July 4. This year, the runner field is staying stagnant at 60,000. Although current ATC runners Read the entire post [...]
