Some of you may have seen it by now. An early 2012 Christmas present. Ahh yes…the first anouncement from the 2012 Peachtree Road Race that registration will open Thursday, March 15. Mark it on your calendar now, fellow runners.
No longer are the days of waiting for that faithful Sunday morning to run out, getting that day’s AJC, filling out your registration and mailing it in. No; the Peachtree Road Race has finally gone digital.
The announcement states that you’ll be able to “enter the lottery” between 7 a.m. March 15 and 11:59 p.m. March 22. If you want to join 59,999 of your favorite friends on a 6.2-mile run down one of Atlanta’s most famous streets, you’ll need to log on and put your name in the metaphorical hat.
You’ll also have the opportunity to apply as a seeded runner. Submit your times for any Peachtree qualifiers you ran in 2011, such as the Roswell Possum Trot, Jacksonville’s Gate River Run, or Rome’s Berry Half, for a chance to be in an earlier, less-crowded start wave. Here is a complete list of certified runs. If you are planning to submit a time or times, take a look at the handy-dandy time standards to try and get an idea of where you’d be placed.
Something else of note is the deadline for the 2012 T-shirt contest. Enter your design by Feb. 28 to be considered the honorary artist for the iconic shirt.
