Baby we were born to run: Couples who run together last longer

Valentine's Day is here. Wasn't it just Christmas? Yikes. Who's already run/successfully trained for their first long run, half, or marathon this year? Overachievers. Ok, ok. Put your hands down. I've got another question. Have you ever thought about making your life partner your running partner as well? I must confess something that many people may not be able to: I love running with my boo. Use Forrest Gump as running inspiration

"And I was RUN-NING!" How cliche is that? Starting a blog post with a Forrest Gump quote? What have I been reduced to? Forrest Gump had a lot of great qualities. He was fun-loving, smart, affectionate, motivated, and, best of all, a runner. I think runners have to be inspired by other people who like running. Fictional character or not, we can all draw inspiration from Forrest, who seemed to Read the entire post [...]

Georgia road races to plan for in February 2012

If you haven't noticed yet, I have a gigantic state of Georgia on my header. There's a reason behind that. I promise. Running in the state of Georgia (a.k.a God's country) is the best. You've got everything from beach runs, to city races, to mountain adventures. Run one of the most popular Ironman races or an extremely low-key community 5k. There's a race for every runner. And it's all within a Read the entire post [...]

Pinterest can be useful for runners, too!

Pinterest (or Pin Interest  or P-Interest as some people call it) is awesome for oh-so many reasons. (For those of you who aren't as familiar with Pinterest, it's basically an eye candy/inspiration/sharing tool. You have the ability to "pin" things to your inspiration boards, organize by categories, and share with those who follow your pinnings. It's an awesome tool and has caught on like wildfire Read the entire post [...]

3 great Christmas gifts for the runner in your life

Christmas is practically here. Ok - you're right - it's here. This is late, but better late then never. Unless it's a Christmas gift, then just save it for another time. But I realllly love these Christmas gift ideas, so I just had to share them with y'all. They'd work for a birthday, too, though. You may or may not have seen Runner's World's gift guide for runners, but, um, yawn! Here are 3 great Read the entire post [...]

Happy blogging anniversary to me!

It's The Good Foot's two-year anniversary! This time two years ago, I proposed the idea of a localized running blog to my Online Editor while working at The August Chronicle and voila! here we are. With a career move in between and resulting sporadic publishing, we've come a long way. I thought this would be the perfect time to feature a couple of our favorite posts from blogging past. Do Read the entire post [...]

Finding a decent pair of sunglasses for running

My eyes! My eyes! Ok - that was a bit dramatic, but there's no doubt that running outdoors requires a seriously trustworthy pair of shades. Sunglasses, I came to learn unfortunately late, can mean the difference between a pounding squinting-induced headache and a nice, smooth sunny run. When I began running longer distances outdoors, I was skeptic of wearing sunglasses. I thought they'd simply Read the entire post [...]

Georgia marathon runner reaches a milestone

Around the country in 50 marathons. 1,300 miles. That's what one Georgia runner set out to do before the age of 50: run 50 marathons -- 1 in each state -- before reaching 50. And she did. Clemson, S.C. native and Georgia resident Monica Huff stomped on her goal's face and squished it. According to this story in the Athens Banner-Herald, she ran her first marathon in 1999, and her second marathon Read the entire post [...]

Product review: Bose in-ear headphones

I don't know what running would be without music. The two go together like cold weather and cramps. Like bottles of water after a race and Porta-potties. Like Fall and college football. They just belong. So when I set out for a good pair of headphones, I knew that quality and usability was at the top of my list. I got lucky and was gifted a pair of Bose in-ear headphones for my birthday one year, Read the entire post [...]

Avoiding a winter running hiatus

It's not cold yet, but it will definitely get cold. Or whatever my southern version of "cold" is. Typically, I take this time of year to rest and rejuvinate, ready to emerge during the new year with new goals and new plans in mind. Not this year. This year, there's no running/exercise hiatus for me. I'm going to stick it out in the cold. That's the plan, anyway. I'm well-equipped with heat gear, Read the entire post [...]
